Wrestling Promotions have been having tournaments to decide championships for decades, so I don’t think so. This is Spors Entertainment and this is a storyline. If it elevates the importance of the WWE Intercontinental Title, a title with a rich history: Don Muracco, Pedro Morales, Pat Patterson, Macho Man, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Curt Hennig, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Jeff Hardy, John Morrison and so many others, then I’m all in favor of a tournament. We’ve gotten to see matches we otherwise would not have seen.

As a complete tna mark , I think they are, the only thing different is that you have rey mysteiro who won the world title at maina 22 and hold it four months, so that makes it a big time feel. As well as punk who is a two time world champion(I count ecw for some reason), I think the x divison one is a desprate attempnt to revive the ignored x divison. I still love tna.

    TNA always copies WWE.Montreal incident,DX invasion,shark boy,abyss,and more.
It could be a coincidence,or then again it’s TNA,the company who does anything to get WWE’s attention and make it seem like it’s competition or on par or better.

Merely a coincidence in my opinion. TNA has hosted tournaments for the Tag and X-Division Championships before and this is no different. From what I remember Feast or Fired was also held last year and both years Christopher Daniels got the pink slip.

so, by your standards anything that has a tournament is copying the wwe? a tournament is too general of a concept for one company to trademark.

  6. THE BOTTOM LINE!!! on November 17th, 2009 4:03 am

I don’t think so, TNA holds tournaments often, so it’s not different from the norm for them. If anything they are doing this tournament to spice up the X-division a bit, which has gotten a little stale lately.

completely coinceidental. TNA always hosts tournaments and this is a better tournament than the IC tournament. The X Division tournament has a better storyline going on than the IC tournament!!!

    most likely just a coincidence.

I think that this is happening all on coicidence.
And even if they were stealing the idea from WWE’s IC Title tournament, I still think that this is a good thing because it is finally giving the X Division a chance in the spotlight, which is what all these amazing young athletes deserve.
And the whole thing with the guarunteed new X champion since Shiek Bashir was eliminated in the opening match by Eric Young sets up an interesting scenario because I think there are plenty of guys who have an equal chance of winning the belt.
What I think they should do is have Sonjay Dutt and Alex Shelley face off in the finals and have Alex Shelley win. Then Sabin is congratulating his partner and then he takes a cheap shot and beats him down, turning heel in the process (Even though I think the MCMG are in the process of a heel turn anways). He basically says that people are overlooking him because of Shelley and he gets angry because the Guns were focuses on the Tag titles and Shelley goes off and beats Sabin for a singles title. Before the match took place, Sabin and Shelley had a backstage segment and Sabin basically say that no matter who would win the match, it was nothing personal (Sabin’s arrongance had him sure that he would easily beat Shelley) and when Shelley beat him he gets irate. This whole thing starts a feud between Sabin and Shelley over the X Division Title. Sabin wins the title and the war.
I would have them eventually face each other in a Street Fight around Destination X and then after several confrontations on iMPACT, the feud culminates with the first ever one-on-one Ultimate X match for the X Title at Sacrifice.
After the feud the two embark on their own seperate agendas. Sabin remains a cocky heel and tries to cement yet another dominant reign as X Division champion.
Shelley eventually turns heel again and returns to his “Papparazzi” gimmick with the weird style and highlighted hair. He reforms Papparazzi Productions with Jimmy Rave, Lance Rock, Johnny Devine, and Sonjay Dutt w/ SoCal Val.

Good question I don’t know maybe. But I think the wee is only having the tournament because the New Intercontinental Title History DVD was just released recently. That tournament isn’t interesting me to much it’s going to be two faces fighting for the title boring loll. There is a lot question over what is copying what.Is the Main Event Mafia just a copy of what Evolution was or the La Famila? (I personally don’t watch TNA as much so I don’t know what was first MEM or La Famila). But isn’t the wwe just really reusing the Evolution idea with Randy Orton’s new Stable Legacy? Only this time Randy isn’t the under-dog.He’s running it his way. The thing is opposing wrestling brands have been using others idea’s and twisting them for years like for example New World Order and D-Generation-X kind of the same concept NWO was but rule breaking this is how it’s going to be done as DX was more in your face degenerates. Pretty similar this has been happening sense WCW and WWF and now it’s happening in TNA and WWE.There are after all only so many new idea’s to be used in the wrestling world in my opinion.

Got something to say?
