The WWF was sued by the World Wildlife Fund for using something similar to its logo in England. Vince lost. He wanted to change the name to Entertainment because it is part entertainment.

WWE is world wrestiling entertainment…it was WWF but they had to change it due to the fact that there is a global environment conservation with the same acronym (World Wide Fund for Nature). So prevent copyrights and confusion the wrestling changed it to WWE

Wrestling used to be called World Wrestling Federation (WWF), but there was a organization that all ready had the acronym WWF which stood for World Wildlife Fund. The World Wildlife Fund and the World Wrestling Federation were in court for many years debating who should keep the name. The World Wrestling Federation just got tired of all the court drama and decided to change its name from World Wresting Federation to World Wresting Entertainment.

The only differnce is the wwe has an e in it and wwf has an f in it.
other then that they are the same programing. Same wrestlers and everything, same bad storylines.. ohh waitthere is one difference all the stars are leaving now…The Rock gone, Stone Cold gone, Trish gone, Stacy gone …they are losing alot of talant now.. cus of the bad storylines. Thats why Cena is the champ now.

In 2000, the World Wide Fund for Nature sued the World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment) for unfair trade practices. Both companies shared the abbreviation WWF. The environmental organization claimed that the wrestling company had violated a 1994 agreement regarding use of the WWF initials.
On August 10, 2001, a British court ruled in favor of the conservation organisation. The World Wrestling Federation filed an appeal in October 2001. But on May 5, 2002, it quietly changed its website URL from wwf.com to wwe.com, and used an automatic editing override to replace every “WWF” reference on the existing site with “WWE.”
However, abandonment of the acronym did not conclude the two organizations’ legal wrangling. Later in 2002, the WWF petitioned for $360 million in damages. The wrestling group made a counteroffer after that, leading to an undisclosed settlement. In 2003, World Wrestling Entertainment won a limited decision which permitted them to continue marketing certain preexisting products with the abandoned WWF logo. In general, though, the wrestling company was obliged to issue newly-branded merchandise such as apparel, action figures, video games, and DVDs with the “WWE” acronym. For example, the wrestling company has blocked out references to the “WWF” on its decades-long backlog of video footage. “World Wrestling Federation” is permissible as is the old “block” logo.

Got something to say?
