What Show Was Better Wcw’s Clash Of Champions Or Wwf/e’s Saturday Night’s Main Event?
Saturday Night's Main Event was a short show that was used mostly to push storylines prior to PPVs. There were some classic moments in this show, like Paul Orndorff vs. Hulk Hogan in a steel cage, and King Kong Bundy almost breaking Hogan's ribs and Paul Orndorff piledriving him 4 or 5 times prior to Wrestlemania 2. But they only aired maybe twice a year, and it was a short show.
Clash of the Champions, which dates back to the company's NWA days, was like a 2 hour free PPV that aired on cable. It was a unique type of show for it's time, because it was a show that aired nothing but PPV type matches, that aired maybe 3 times a year. This was before the days of RAW or Nitro where they did regular 2 hour, sometimes 3 hour TV wrestling shows. So Clash of the Champions actually broke ground on the 2 hour TV wrestling show. Before this wrestling shows were usually about an hour, maybe two hours as was the case with Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic on TBS, but wrestling shows were mostly big name wrestlers vs. unknown jobbers for the TV shows. Clash of the Champions put a lineup of good matches for 2 hours for free....before RAW and Nitro like I said.
There were a huge number of classic matches that happened at a Clash of the Champions, Sting vs. Ric Flair at the first one, Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat, Steve Austin vs. Ricky Steamboat, The Steiners vs. Terry Gordy and Steve Williams, Hollywood Blonds vs. Arn Anderson and Ric Flair....there's a long list of great matches from a Clash of the Champions.
Plus the show ran for many years, while Saturday Night's Main Event ran for a few years, got stopped for a long time and was revived only to air maybe 2 times that I recall.
I get nostalgic for an old Saturday Night's Main Event show, but overall....the better TV wrestling show was Clash of the Champions because of it's longevity, groundbreaking in 2 hours of PPV type wrestling for free, and the many classic matches it had.
Saturday Night's Main Event falls short just because it doesn't have as much history as a Clash of the Champions, thought SNME was on a bigger mainstream scale.

Got something to say?

Clash of the Champions was jsust that, Championship Matches, Titles were put on the line. Clash of the Champions was a Pay Per View Quality Special Show broadcast on TBS. It was great. Saturday Night’s Main Event had good shows and bad shows. They had too much comedy on there sometimes.
SNME was better
